With my husband, potter/ sculptor
Jamie Davis, I live and work near Six Mile, SC. For 30 years we have made
our living as full-time artists. We have tended our constantly changing
house, studios, and gardens, leaving the state and the country on frequent
trips to sell, to teach, or to re-inspire ourselves, and returning gladly.
This wooded setting in the beautiful foothills of the upstate now includes
miles of trails and an 80 foot multiple waterfall, and fully-equipped
fiber, clay, wood and sculpture facilities.
Lately it also includes some young artists, who share our expanding studios
and have brought new vigor to the place. Our son Shelby, an MFA student,
returns occasionally from Oregon but his sculptural self-portraits still
inhabit the grounds. My daughter Amalia is a PhD candidate in Art History
whose perspective keeps us alert.
With our friends Donna Polseno and Rick Hensley, we have recently taken
a leap of imagination, investing in a small house in a beautiful village
in Liguria, in the hills of northern Italy. We plan to visit, work, and
possibly teach there. It is currently in renovation. Stay tuned.
